Baptism by Fire

I have learned that if I plant a small seed in Jerome's brain that within a week (sometimes up to 2 years) he'll eventually think that something is his idea and get all excited about it and I will eventually get what I want. Years and years ago I said "We should get some bikes!" So Saturday morning he woke up and said, "It would be fun if we got some bikes and started riding together". In my head I said "What the f$@$##^$! I said this like years ago, but now that its your idea we're going to do it?!?" Just like our backyard. I had been begging Jerome for a fence so Story would have a place to play, but it wasn't until it was his idea that it went in. He'll swear its not true, but i've come to learn that this is just how he operates. When we moved into our house I told him how much I would love to grow a garden. He thought i'd just let it die and not take care of it, but he finally put them in this year, because I was relentless and I have taken such good care of my garden, we will even have our first zucchini to pick in a couple days! And we've got dozens of tomatoes coming in.
Anyway, on to the "Baptism by Fire". Saturday we went to Walmart to get bikes. We dropped the kids off at Shauna's because Story has not stopped asking to "Go see Shauna!?" since we got home from Downatta. (then as soon as we picked them up she said, "lets go see lynus!?" because he wasn't there when Shauna watched them). So because we don't have a truck, we went to Walmart, bought all the appropriate gear and rode the bikes home.... 3.3 miles. Thus the baptism by fire! No matter what way you look at it, our house is uphill. We live on the corner and in every direction you go, its downhill from our house. (At least we dont have to worry about floods, but it makes biking harder!). The ride was pretty easy most the time, I am a huge wuss, really out of shape and it nearly killed me. Half way up the biggest hill I had to stop, because I didn't have a drink and everything was going black. I almost barfed and/or passed out. But we finally made it home and I downed a couple power-ades.

We went back to Walmart after we got home to get our car and to get Story and Gauge a bike trailer and helmets, because the bike trailer said you had to wear helmets, which isn't a bad idea. We got Story a bell for her bike (which she loves!). They had a princess helmet there, but i talked her into a Hello Kitty helmet. I just really hate Disney Princess stuff. Not sure why.
I was surprised Gauge could hold his head up with the helmet on. He couldn't stop looking at Story once they were in the trailer. They actually behaved pretty good back there on our little bike ride that same night.

To punish Jerome for making me bike 3.3 miles in the 95 degree weather I made him put stupid license plates on our bikes. They're pretty nerdy, but I wanted to do it just to be dumb. I personalized them both for us.

After letting my crotch heal for a couple days (because MAN it killed!!) we went on another bike ride last night. We went on a really quick one, because it started to rain and we were biking against the really heavy wind that came out of nowhere! Then Jerome's bike chain broke.... LAME. We are enjoying our bikes, its a good workout for me, I just wish it wasn't so hard to get back home!

PS, I un-privated my blog, possibly just temporarily. But I am sick of no one checking it because its private, so now you can know when I update it in your blog lists.

Woah, aren't you afraid of people stalking your kids?! Jk. Just don't advertise your address and you'll be fine. I should go get my bike from mom's, put Felix on Story's lap, and we should all go for a ride (cause Kyle got a bike months ago and has ridden it twice). I'm pretty proud that you rode that. My first day in spin class I was pretty sure I was going to die.

Dangit. This is Kelli, not Kyle

That made me laugh so hard! I hate bike riding, but we do it occasionally. Usually I make Vic take the kids so I can have some alone time. That picture of the two kids in the trailer is super cute too.

Those bikes look like so much fun! Gabe is the same about things having to be his idea, they must be brothers or something:) I told Gabe a couple weeks ago I want to get bikes too, we'll see if that ever happens. I love your kids in there helmets, so cute/funny. Happy ridng!

Your kids are so beautiful. (But I'm not stalking them, I promise!)

That's awesome that they were so good in the bike trailer. When we tried that with Connor and Elise, they hated the trailer, hated the helmets, hated the wind . . . it was just a big cry fest.

YES!!! I'm so glad you un-privated your blog! That's fantastic. Also, I loved this post because that's TOTALLY how Jeff is, as far as ideas go. If I want anything done, I have to give it at least two weeks...to start out "casually" hinting at something, and then turning it into a "wouldn't it be nice..." ordeal. After a week or so, he comes up with this amazing idea that sounds a lot like what I mentioned weeks ago. However, his memory is so bad that he has no recollection of it. It's a system that works.
I think bike riding is great, as well. I need to do more of it. And the burning crotch was just plain truth...because that's what happens. I enjoyed your honestly, immensely. :)

I LOVE bike riding, we have not one but TWO bikes and two trailors (both hand me downs that need to be fixed) at our house and we never go. I took Axel last summer before I got pregnant with Dani and he loved it, except for when the straps broke. I would love to go with you sometime, but I just don't know how that would work out....unless you came and borrowed Kory's bike and brought your trailer with you. or visa versa, although I doubt I would be able to reach the peddles on jeromes.
