Before I share pictures of my kids' messy room, here is Gauge's costume: (he's supposed to be brobee from Yo Gabba Gabba. Its not totally right, but close enough.

And here is Story in between fits. She was sort of a pill all weekend long. Just crying over everything. Not sure what her deal is. She's been super naughty lately. When we first put Gauge's crib in her room she started bawling "no no! take it down! its my room! its my room!"
Happy in her big mess:
When we first painted Story's room we decided that we wanted bright happy colors, because she's little and needs a space to feel completely free. So we went with the yellow and pink stripes. But the pink stripes didn't really fly with a boy in the room. So, i decided to go with a watermelon and a lime-ish color. I promise it doesn't look so obnoxious in person. Its pretty intense when you take pictures, but it looks better in person.
Wondering where Gauge's crib is? Oh. its in the closet. Cruel I know!BUT, we can close the doors and he'll nap really well for me. We tried it without putting him in the closet and he only would nap 15 minutes at a time and then cry and cry all evening, because he was so exhausted. I think the transition has been hard on both of them. This weekend was tough with both of them. Gauge thought it was important for him to be held all weekend, which I just cannot cope with. And Story thought if Gauge was being held that I should make room on my lap for her too. Hopefully they will adjust soon!! But we had to create an office space for Jerome and I.

So I guess you could say he comes out of the closet on a regular basis.
I think I need to make a call...aren't there tons of books of abused children being locked in closets? I hope you're putting away some therapy money! He looks so cute in his outfit!
Cute costume, gauge looks great in green!
I can't remember if it was my sister Amber or I but one of us had to sleep in the closet. I think it was a space issue thing anyways we turned out pretty normal....i think.
oh I think it is just fine! Remember how Axel slept in a room full of storage the first year? The only issue I would have is oxygen. I wanted to build a little nook in the kids room for that same reason, and Kory mentioned that there wouldn't be enough air? I don't know how true that is. But it scared me enough to not do it. But my kids had a hard first week too. But now they do great. Baby girl sleeps until 5 in there most nights. Give a few random sick nights here or there. I worry about when they get older and more rebellious like how Axel is now, but we'll see.
Oh and I really love the bold colors. and you we all know how I feel about watermelon. can I come live in there?
I think that's hilarious. Do what you gotta do.
I agree with Keri. You do what you have to. And all kids are weird when it comes to sleeping. Mine refused to sleep anywhere but their own beds with their own pillows, and fans. It was an ordeal to go anywhere if it would be during a naptime. Also, when it comes to Sydney, I'll have to tell you about her setup...cause I'd probably be turned in for child abuse, but it works for her and us...so we do it.
Oh, and I totally signed out before I told you: I love the kids' room. I think it was a very brave step to use those colors--I would have been afraid to try it, but I really like out it turned out. I'm sorry Story's space needs to be shared for a while, but she'll get used to it. Maybe even like it after a while. Riley and Cole really enjoyed being together for about three years. And, Gauge looks adorable in his costume. Phew. I'm now done.
