Friday of our trip I went with Jerome to the competition. We actually got to sit and watch most of the day, because Jerome's first fight wasn't until that evening. I've never really got to sit and watch that much, because I was always with Jerome and he was always fixing his robot.
This was just before his first match against "Spamalot" (they have weird names for their robots. Jerome's robot is "Hotstuff".
In the arena. His first match (which he won).
They filmed the heavy weights for the discovery channel, so Grant from Mythbusters was there. Jerome has known him since he was like 14, so i made him snag a picture with him. Jerome is a lightweight bot, so he wont be on tv. But they are airing it memorial day weekend if anyone is interested.
I didn't go the second and third day of the competition, I stayed back and watched the babies. He won his matches on Saturday, then lost 2 on Sunday and ended up with a silver medal. He was still pretty happy. Last year he got bronze, so maybe next year he'll end up with the gold!
Below is his first match, it wouldn't let me upload the whole thing, because it was too long, but here is the very end, which is the most interesting part anyway. Jerome is the red and black one that grabs other bots and flames them. If you throw another bot over the side of the arena you win. That's exactly what Jerome did and everyone went nuts, it was pretty exciting.

How long did he have to practice his victory dance? Second place is radical! When I mentioned what you guys were doing all the scoutmasters ears perked up and they all want him to be a merit badge counselor for the robotics badge that just came out this month.
Good work Jerome! I was wondering the same thing about the victory dance! Hahaha but it was totally warranted.
Where are the pictures of what you did with the babies?
They're on pt. 1
That's so cool. I don't think I've got a silver medal for anything before, let alone like the gold he'll get next year! Your guys' trip sounded so fun. I hope ours is too...if we ever get there. Have a publicly complained enough about this? I'll post a few more complaints on facebook and blog about it...
Congrats to Jerome! I think a silver medal is completely fantastic. I've always been a definite "silver over gold", girl. :)
